Exploring the mineral and crystal dimensions of media technology, human infrastructure and co. delves into the mystic aspects of crystals—particularly the trend of healing crystals and their parallels with the pervasive use of crystals in digital devices. The esoteric term ‘crystallomancy’ captures human infrastructure’s view that both gazing into crystals and watching films, themselves composed of silver halide crystals and liquid crystals, can induce a trance-like state, offering certain visions of the present.

Over two days on 2nd and 3rd November, “e-Crystallomancy” will feature Human Infrastructure, dianabandand, and a Nam Min-oh performing an audio-visual show using DIY electronic instruments crafted from crystals with distinct properties. These include a homebrew piezo microphone, crystal radio, and copper crystal film device.

It may lean, but it does not fall

Rotation, rotation, rotation, rotation, rotation, the universe is built upon rotation. What is rotation? When it returns to its state of origin, it signifies one rotation. Or, if there exists an object circling along a trajectory that captures some entity, one might say it is rotating. Electrons capturing the atomic nucleus at the speed of light. Electrons rotate. Everything is somewhat tainted. A pristine spin, a pristine orbit probably does not exist. Yet, clearly they too, I too, all of us are spinning.

Electromagnetic gazing is a ritual of gazing upon and listening to the rotations that fill the world, hitherto overlooked. Using compasses and electronic devices, we shall explore the three-dimensional structure of magnetic field lines enveloping space, and become able to see and hear them. The rotating magnetic field is acoustically reconstructed, recording the moment of here and now in everyone’s mind. Your own rotation may be rewritten. Have you ever dreamt of pure, pristine rotation? If so, you will be able to hear it. The ripples where the world’s electromagnetically filled waves meet your own.

Crystallomancy (Crystal Gazing) refers to a mystical practice wherein one gazes into a crystal until entering a trance-like state, thereby gaining some sort of “vision”.
