Let us recall a time when we touched the rain. The raindrops bounce into the air as soon as we touch them. Therefore, the experience or sensation of touching raindrops happens for only a brief moment in time. When you touch the work ring ring rain, which has raindrop shapes bumpily protruding on the paper, you hear the sound of
the rain and see the shape of the raindrops created by shadows of light and your own fingertips touching it, which invites you into a moment of fantasy.

What you see there may be an oneiric vision like seeing a rainbow in the rain or a memory of someone walking in the rain tapping a steel fence.

In this exhibition, they present ring ring rain(2013~2023), a work that can play the sound of rain when viewers touch the round raindrops created by the shadows on a large, white paper, measuring 8 meters in total length. If view-
ers quietly put their palms down in the middle of the raindrops cast pouringly on the paper, the sound of the rainy landscape wil surround the viewers’ whole bodies as if they are caught in the rain. Using an 8-channel audio interface, the sound rings differently depending on the position of the touch on the paper. It creates a sensation as if the viewers stayed under a roof of sound
created at their fingertips. When several viewers put their hands together, the sound becomes even louder. At every moment, a viewer experiences a unique rain scenery along with other viewers who share the moment.

Anyone should have had at least one experience of walking down the street, reaching out to a fence, and folowing the sound of the fence made
as their hands touch it. Try to walk along the long sheet of paper instaled in a shape of a ‘ㄱ’ on the front and right side wals of the exhibition room, reaching out your hand. You may encounter the sound of a rainbow rising, in a rainy
scenery.

When we touch something, not only is it our touching, but we are also touched. Even if the act of touching is initiated by ourselves, the sensation of ‘touching’ and ‘being touched’ coincide, so our consciousness is confused about whether we are the subject or the object in this process. Our work ring ring rain aims to revive the experience of senses interacting with consciousness and recall the memories of that experience through the senses.
